Mythics is a text-based online world, the old MUD kind from when I was a kid, but I never knew how much work it was to try to build such a thing: real places that connect everything together so when you go into a little room Rhilia The Clerk in Anjulan will react based on the weather, be selling things relevant to their culture, know all the rumors and have unique inventory that will change. All because this is how it should be right? So if I do per chance visit one of the 20,000 rooms in Mythics, I would get that experience.
The generator turns a simple map into a whole world in one command. It works out terrain and climate, then lays down rivers, towns, roads and dungeons. Then it fills them: names that fit each culture, NPCs with daily routines, shops, 21 classes with 630 abilities, local rumors and quests set in real rooms. It even writes 300 years of history, which leaves battlefields and treaty stones scattered around. (I almost lost my marriage with Dwarf Fortress where I had this inspiration from) The current world comes out at 361 zones and 11,640 rooms, in about a second. But you can change the seed and make whatever you like. Same seed, same world every time, so I can rewrite any room’s text without breaking anyone’s save.
